Thanks Len; it was real fun doing those tests - I'm working on a second VF
article of tests done by Optikos of the 50/2 DR Summicron, the 60/2,8
Macro-Elmarit and
- ta-da - the Alpa Kern 50/1,9 Macro-Switar.

Go ahead and buy a 35/2,8 Summaron, you won't regret it. Even at
$600.-850.US they are lots less expensive than new Leica lenses and they
will give you stunnung results and still continue to serve for decades. Make
sure you get one whose optical and mechanical functions are flawless - don't
worry about cosmetics so long as they don't suggest a lens that has been
used hard. And I would limit my search to lenses above ser # 19xxxxx;
somewhere around there Leitz improved the coating of all of their lenses. We
read about it mostly with respect to the contemporary 50/2 Summicrons. But I
believe they did it across their lens lines. It is even worth sending a lens
to Don Goldberg or John Van Stelten for one of them to check and CLA - if
necessary. I've sent lenses to each of them and had them returned to me with
the comment: "checked out fine" and a very nominal charge + mailing.

Good luck,

Seth
