I'm sure that it is a great outfit for convenient wildlife photography with a big AF zoom. The recent stuff you have shown from Africa is very impressive in its web sizes. What I do have though are two large prints (up to 450mm) from Doug, one by him and one carefully printed by me from an original file for a charity auction. That one is higher key and subtle toned. Both are absolutely superb in detail and colour rendition and in fact every technical quality. To look at these close up is a revelation and a joy. You might need to qualify your statement that the Nikon combo is better ;-) Do you mean more practical /easier to get good results with? Obviously Doug is an acknowledged dedicated expert here. It would be a pretty bold claim that the Nikon output is technically better than that of the DMR in expert hands. Our priority is to modernise the R system which will be in the end an R10, definitely. -----Original Message----- Subject: Re: [Leica] R10 news Frank, I dont agree - they sell photographs for a living, unlike you and me. Any long term survival of any company depends on being able to sell a product in the niche where it excels. I was also comparing the D3 to the R8/9 with DMR, and not to the M series. Incidentally, I have a few prints taken by Doug Herr with the DMR, as well as quite a few taken with the D3 combo I was referencing, and I think that for wildlife/birds the Nikon combo is better - I again reitirate that this is based on examining prints and not on seeing small jpg on the net. I myself use the 200-400, but with the D300, and it is the best and most versatile long lens I have owned for wildlife. It is not useful at all for street photography, though (-: !! Cheers Jayanand
