Well, actually, there are totally different design concepts behind the IIIg
and the M3.  The one didn't "morph" into the other -- the IIIg was the
product of a design team committed to Barnack's principles, while the M3
was the product of a design team inspired by Ernst Leitz.  Different
strokes for different folks!
