Thanks Jim and Douglas,

For the last year I had been using the III's extensively because of the
cataract in my right eye. My left eye had already been "serviced", but
Leicas are clumsy with left eye focusing.

My IIIc is nr 418563, after the war, from what I gather. I bought it years
ago, probably 20, from Ken Frazier (I think) on the LUG. I noticed it was
overexposing a bit in the late fall (compared to other cameras that had
been serviced) so I sent in it and my IIIf (also from a list member years
ago) to adjust the shutter along with a regular CLA of the IIIf. Now
everything matches up for a while, probably for the rest of my life ;-)

I remember that Marc Small always praised the IIIc, even over the IIIf. I
wouldn't go that far, but the more I use it, the better I understand him.
It is cheap, no collectors want it, it has a die cast body (no paper shims
to get misplaced over the years) and it is relatively light. I still carry
it around in a winter coat with an Elmar or Industar on it, just as a bang
around camera.

The last 10 years I've been heavily focused on long distance cycling,
randonneuring. We carry as little as possible with us. I've pulled it out
many an evening before an event, only to see it being the last thing on the
table, that doesn't make it into my pockets or bags. Truth be said, neither
does the plastic Yashica T4. The Olympus Stylus Epic does on occasion
(water-proof/sweat-proof). But with the pandemic and all, I'll probably be
carrying more things with me anyway, to avoid going into my favorite
gourmet restaurant (Circle K) for refreshments, and it just might qualify.

I usually take pictures of people, but there are not many people in my life
these days, for obvious reasons.
