I had less than stellar results when I had one, also about 8008 time but since there's no outlay, use it. You have to focus to the approximate range manually with the 300, and the TC16 will do the rest. The longer the lens, the more you have to focus manually. Ie, with a 50mm lens, you don't have to focus manually unless you're in quite close, but with the 300 you'll find yourself continually refocussing manually as the AF in the converter runs out of range. Personally, I always had better results with the 400/6.8 Telyt than with a 180 or 300 and the TC16A. YMMV.
