Well in my case it seems to lock up the shutter when it does this.  this is 
a really weird problem.  I have found that if I shoot and manually check 
shutter cock between shots it works just fine.  Maybe it is because the R8 
has sat in active for so long and its shutter is stiff?  ;-)

Thanks to everyone who has replied so soon.  I will try cleaning the 
contacts, I would guess the sensor cleaner would do or I may see if we have 
some alcohol around, and keep exercising it and it will go away.
