I also scan to TIFF, but then again, I only scan black and white, so NEF probably wouldn't help me out much, except if Lightroom can use the file format anyway to an advantage. I never upgraded to version two, so maybe this problem is solved, but Lightroom version 1 is the pits when it comes to retouching dust. Nikon scanners are cruel when it comes to catching a lot of detail ... dust and scratches. It seems to work well with dust that gets glued to a sensor, but scanning usually ends up with a _lot_ of extra work spotting out dust. In fact, the greatest argument for me, if I were doing color, for digital is just this: freedom from dust and scratches. Sure, sensors get dirty too, but nothing like negatives. Anyway, yesterday, after posting some shots I catalogued the scans into Lightroom. I had already retouched them with Photoshop, so I could just play with the "development" tools on my tiffs. No complaints. I can understand if Adobe doesn't give the clone brush a high priority. It's not much of a problem with digital work (by comparison) and we who scan simply do not represent a particularly important target group for their software. But I did think it did a lot better than I remember. Daniel
