I thought I recalled the current model lens coming with a very compact screw in hood. Jerry insists that a clip-on will fit all Elmar M 2.8 50 models. The Leica site specification says that the current lens has a built in telescopic hood (like the current Summicron 50). I don't remember this. I think that it is a mistake in their PDF Len's reference says that a clip-on 12585 will fit the first (early) version and the modern E39 hood, 12549 comes with the current lens. I do not have the current Elmar but I do have the 12585 hood which I use on my 50mm collapsible and DR Summicrons. The requirements to use this hood is the lens should have a 42mm external mount diameter with a grove for the spring loaded clips.
