I agree 100%. For a smaller company than Canon, Nikon did pretty
well in designing and marketing film cameras "just right" for certain
market niches and price points. Skipping the high end F's, the F100,
N90, N80, FM2n, etc. all enjoyed great popularity.

I hope the "D200" is a kind of "digital F100" for Nikon - good viewfinder,
AIS lens meter compatibility, decent build quality, optional vertical 
grip with
shutter release, and yes, a few more megapixels at a sub $2K price. 

We'll see.
