I almost totally demolished a D70 this summer while on vacation in Russia.
I had a 24-120 G lens mounted on in and as I exited a bus the lens barrel
hit or was caught on something and ripped the lens off the body. With the
body came number of loose springs, bezels, ABS mounting rings, and assorted
screws. The lens was fine but the body was a wreck. Still, Nikon repaired
it for $280 and it appears to work as well as new. They do break.
