As long as you are scanning film to digital, and processing for
display/printing from there, it would be better to have crisp images that
can be softened any which way you want in PP, because the converse (i.e.
soft to sharp) might not always be possible. IMHO, it is always better to
have too much information than too little, the range of possibilities for
the final output is far greater.

Of course, I am assuming here that the only important aspect is not the
process or methodology, but the final output.
