I had coffe with a protogee a year or so back and she told me she also used
Photoshop as she was showing my her pix on her iPHone.
Later on I figured out that on the box of Lightroom it says Photoshop.
Photoshop Lightroom or visa versa.
So Adobe thoughts you should not get your cake and eat it too.

Adobe managed to screw the pooch by playing around with the names
Lightroom, Classic, and CC. Mind boggling stupidity.
The historical names are not important.... You want to know what to
buy/rent today??????

If you want to use the Cloud Version, which is where you MUST store your
photos and have access to them anywhere you can get a network connection to
the web, and or want to process your images on an Ipad type devcice, buy (
rent?) the Plain ordinary Lightroom.

If you want to use a HDD that is local to you ( meaning on your desk),
not have access to your photos in multiple locations (NO cloud), nor
otherwise process on an IPad, and or do not have a fast internet connection(
Dial up users beware!!!) or restricted amount of data transfer from the WEB,
then you want to rent (buy?) the Lightroom Classic version.

Remember that Adobe charges for use of the Cloud storage...... $ per TB,
per month..... Not the amount you actually use or transfer, the actual
storage amount that you request.....

This info is valid right now. Adobe will probably change the names
again in the future to further obfuscate the user getting the version he
really wants/needs.

Yes of course you can, LR Classic is still held locally (as well as
having many more functions than LR CC)

So really you can't use lightroom with your own hard disk you have
to use their cloud?

LR Classic is now LR CCC - Classic but Cloud based.
LR CC doesn?t work for (serious) photographers, you miss
essential bells and whistles.
I tried it, and changed my subscription the next day to LR CCC.

The offer may vary from country to country though.
