I used to carry nail scissors and cut the leaders by hand, that was until the
post-9/11 situation. All the fuss about what you could - and couldn't - 
carry on
with you meant no more nail scissors. Now I just use the leader on the film 
and
wind it round the take-up spool one extra time or so.

It has incidentally affected my carbon footprint; I take trains 
internationally
where I can and often drive. I fly far less than I used to.
