Gerry,
Brahman is a philosophical concept of oneness in consciousness (I
cannot put it any easier, sorry), the ultimate reality in Hindu
philosophy. Actually, I would say that Hinduism is a religion of
collective philosophy through writings that show many roads to
salvation, rather than that of a central deity and a strict single
road. Like all Asian religions it does not have a martial edge, or a
warlike need to convert every human to one line of thought, which all
the Middle Eastern religions do. This flexibility is why it survived
onslaughts and centuries of Islamic and Christian (British) rule so
effortlessly.

A gurudwara is a holy shrine of Sikhism, a distinct religion, though
it sprang from Hinduism - just like Buddhism did. There is no central
deity in Sikhism, either - the closest is a holy book! This is the
headquarters of the Sikh faith:

I,too, am not religious by nature. I am drawn to photograph religious
places and festivals, because society, as a whole, invest so much
time, effort and raw emotion in it, that ultimately seeing other
people's faith moves me.

Cheers
Jayanand
