If you use 400 speed film you won't notice it much because the drop is in the 20 and 40 lp/mm range, which films like that don't resolve that well anyway. when assessing performance with these kinds of films the 5 and 10 lp/mm performance is most informative. Again, it's part of the reason for differences in perceived performance between a very high resolution digital sensor and film. I should also point out that I really like the 28/2.8 asph. Discussions of these kinds are relative (as in this lens compared to that lens) not absolute (this lens is good, that one is bad). Lots of my favourite photos were taken using lenses that are a lot worse than the ones I have now.
