In its native Belgium, Stella is a downscale beer, kind of like Schlitz or Old Milwaukee in the US. But somehow in the UK they succeeded in positioning it as a premium brand, so the hip people in London drink it. I never understood it either. For me Stella has always been something to be drunk only in emergencies (i.e. if no other beer was available).
