I'm a Linux user and have used GIMP for the past 3 years for all of my
image manipulations.
At the current build level, it's equivalent to at least PS CS2 in
intelligence. It was stuck at PS6 for years, minus a few tools.
There are a lot of plugins that can be used with GIMP to do whatever
you please.
And if you have a hankering for development, you can always make your
own since the source code is open.

Since I got the M8, my photos have gone through RAW conversion using
the UFRAW plugin for GIMP and then I adjust the usual levels, etc, then
I'm done.
Photoshop was initially the ONLY reason that I had a Windows partition
on my computer. Now Windows is all but forgotten but I still keep it
there for a few things.

Have fun.
