However if you have LR2.6 you can take advantage of the newest Raw processing (and DNG standard) in that. The snag is that the earlier ACR will not recognise the LR2.6 edits. Of course once you export your Raw files as a tiff or psd you can use your current CS3 as it is no problem. There are some compatibilty options in LR2.6 but I have yet to solve why ACR 2.6 doesn't like the LR2.6 edits (since the converter engine is the same). Sorry about all of the acronyms.
