The 21 Summilux works fine with the M8 and M9 because it a retrofocus
design.  In both it and the 24 Summilux there are negative elements at
the front of the optical group.  See:

In a traditional symmetrical wide-angle design, the nodal point would
be much closer to the film or sensor plane than in these lenses.
Leica has been doing this with their wides for quite some time.
