A complication is that the filter is distorted out of round when you apply pressure unevenly and the binding is worse. 2009/12/19 Bob Shaw <rsphotoimages at comcast.net> > Most of the solutions offered really work on a fixed-ring standard > thickness filter. > > Before I take it into town for "professional help" I thought I'd check in > with the LUG about the Heliopan Slim Circular Polarizer on my R-Vario > 70-180 > APO. > > It's over-tightened, probably from a lot of in-and-out of the bag during 3 > days at Grand Canyon. > > It's too thin to get a good grip with either rubber gloves or rubber bands > plus the built-in hood - when retracted - protrudes just enough to obstruct > rubber bands, etc. > > The usually reliable rubber mat/rubber glub tricks don't work for the same > reason. > > Is there a Secret Navy Leica Lens solution out there, or do take my baby to > town? > > Thanks in advance. > > Bob > > > Bob Shaw > rsphotoimages at comcast.net > > > On Dec 18, 2009, at 12:48 PM, leo wesson wrote: > > > Just got some strap wrenches a few weeks ago for a plumbing project. > > have to try that. > > > > Leo Wesson > > Photographer/Videographer > > 817.733.9157 > > www.leowesson.com > > > > > > > > On Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 2:41 PM, Frank Filippone <red735i at > > earthlink.net> > wrote: > >> One trick that sometimes works is wide elastic bands.. one around the > >> filter, the other around the lens..... grab the bands and twist them ( > not > >> grabbing the filter nor lens directly, but allow the rubber band to do > the > >> turning....) > >> > >> There is a special wrench made that I have had success with..... > consists of > >> a handle of aluminum and a strap of some vinyl like material.
