Jayanand, my answer to your question is almost exactly what Jeff just said.
I prefer to use a Mac as my primary computer, but there are a few programs
that I must use that are Windows-only. By using a virtualization system such
as VMware or Parallels I can run them on my Mac and thus not need to buy a
second computer or abandon the Mac.

The reason I said "almost exactly what Jeff just said" is that I don't find
the need to "look for a suitable replacement and do away with the whole
silly mess". Much to my surprise, it is neither silly nor a mess.

As I type this message, there are on my screen about 15 windows. Email
windows, browser windows, an iTunes window, and half a dozen application
windows for various applications that I use. 12 of those windows are Mac
windows and 3 of those windows are Windows windows. They co-exist
beautifully. When I switch the focus into a window I don't even have to stop
and think about what kind of window it is. I just click. The main difference
is that if I want to close a Mac window, I click on the red
ball in the upper left corner, and if I want to close a Windows window, I
click on the gray X in the upper right corner.
