I ordered one on 9/9/09 from my usual dealer. I got it last week.
I think it is great that Leica have a huge demand for the M9, it seems
to me to be no more un-available here than the Canon 5d mk2 was for
the first year or so. So not much to uniquely lambast Leica here, I
think.
I understand that the high skill level needed for the manufacture will
not be something one can get at the job centre tomorrow, even if there
were sufficient jigs and tools to warrant extra staff. I am sure they
will clear the backlog and attempt to get an idea of continuing
production volume requirements such that they can assess what the long
term manning levels can/should practically be.
Anything else would be foolish since it would satisfy a tiny number of
vociferous critics and jeopardise the future of the business.
Frank F has been criticising Leica along these lines as long as I have
been on this list, which is probably about 10 years now :-)
