RAW; I almost always shoot RAW only with the M8 because it processes
through the buffer to the card a lot faster that way.

I generally set the EV at -1/3; I'm afraid of underexposing shadows
which will then have a lot of noise in them.

How does the M7 know what the focal length is?

Since I get more accurate automatic exposure using the M8 with a
longer lens (35, 50, 75) than I do with a wider lens (28, 15) I assume
there is some interplay between the lens and the meter coverage; I'm
just curious as to what/how/why.

Frank Fillipone offered:

>I think Mark is right..... set it for -2/3 exposure and continue using the
camera.... then figure out if that is right for you....

BTW, I think it was Tina that said she always underexposed, then expanded
the image using LR.<<

See my response to Mark; I'm afraid of too much shadow with too much noise.

I think the basic answer though is to simply remember that the M8
slightly overexposes when using wider lenses and adjust the settings
accordingly when changing lenses. That will certainly adhere to the
KISS principle. Now if I can just remember......

Thanks for your thoughts.
