My favorite quote from either Winogrand or Freidlander is:

" I photograph things to see what things look like photographed"  when 
asked why he was a photographer.

I just joined a photo club and plan on appropriating this phrase for my 
artistic statement - because I find artistic statements odious, never 
read them ( let the photo speak for itself).  No offense to those who 
like artists statements.
