My guess - the store is wrong about "for the M3"
though as someone mentioned you could use it on the M3 with an  
external shoe mount view finder.
Which means you focus through the range finder and frame through the  
viewfinder (not idea but workable).
or
Perhaps someone could confirm how close the outside of the M3 range  
finder window is to the 35 view
(been too long since I've held my M3 to remember if that may have  
worked).

In any case - the price is more than right (according to your  
description)
to grab the package as a foundation kit and refine it as you go.
