It looks to give a broad comparison of that exposure range at a specific setting. Observations on the test methodolgy from me. Not meant to be objections. I appreciate you making a practical effort here to contribute. Comments anyone if you think if I have got any of the following wrong. You know me, I'm very keen to learn, most especially on the M8 in practice. Using jpg will certainlty affect contrast and dynamic range as the in-camera processing is discarding some data. So the test would be valid if that's what you shoot, but not the best case for the camera. Dynamic range appears to decrease as ISO increases (according to Henning's posted DxO thingie link). So using the native sensitivity (160) of the sensor would give the biggest dynamic range. Of course if you use ISO 640 you want to see the results for that ISO Leaving the minus third exposure in place will skew the results, although each step difference comparison should still be valid. It might affect the result at the two ends though. For a mechanical camera, aperture adjustments might give different results rather than speed adjustments IF the speeds are not accurate. I guess I should take the speeds as accurate. I need to find a good textured grey subject to try this test of yours out on. Maybe I'll use my head. 2009/1/25 George Lottermoser <imagist3@mac.com> > Okay - so here is; > George's barn board > M8 digital zone test: > Camera set on jpeg basic > Tripod mounted (but not particularly careful about movement - no cable > release) > files are directly out of the camera > NO post processing whatsoever (except for in camera) > > -1/3 exposure compensation (sorry - didn't check it before I did this) > ASA 640 - obviously - results would vary a bit at different ASA's > manual metering dead on > zone V exposure: 1/250 sec @ f: 4.5 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_05.JPG> > > Then: > 1/8000 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_00.JPG> > 1/4000 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_01.JPG> > 1/2000 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_02.JPG> > 1/1000 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_03.JPG> > 1/500 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_04.JPG> > 1/250 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_05.JPG> > 1/125 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_06.JPG> > 1/60 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_07.JPG> > 1/30 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_08.JPG> > 1/15 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_09.JPG> > 1/8 > <http://www.imagist.com/m8_zone/zone_10.JPG> > > > > Regards, > George Lottermoser > george@imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com/blog > http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist > Picture A Week - www.imagist.com/paw_07 > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information > -- Cheers Geoff Happy Australia Day all. Gung Hay Fat Choy for the start of the Year of the Ox. We are commencing our celebrations slightly early tonight with a good chef from Hong Kong. Naturally I must take the M8. Wear some red and make some noise!
