Hi Greg,

What I've done is put most of my money into the two channel stereo  
portion of the system which is turntable, tonearm and cartridge, cd  
player, preamp, power amp and main speakers. The rest of the 7.1  
system which is primarily used for movies is a step down in cost but  
still not cheap. Of course the stereo system in integrated into the  
7.1 system via a pass through in the stereo preamp.

I don't know anything about the Hitachi turntable. My turntable is  
actually made in Canada by Oracle.
