George,
The old film M line were worth the premium, because they were built to last
forever, and because they were film cameras, really never went obsolescent.
The same holds for the lenses. I cant say the same about the M8. As far as
Nikon and Canon are concerned, I can buy a semi-pro camera with almost all
the features and exactly the same sensor as the top of the line model for
around $1500 (D300 or 50D) to $2500 (D700 or 5D2). The M8 is probably worth
around $1500 to $2000 or so, especially in light of the need to use filters
under certain conditions. Using these filters may or may not bother an user,
but it is still a design error that does not reflect well on the company.

I am not questioning that it is worth it to a lot of members of the group.
It does not seem that way to me at these prices. I am still buying lenses -
just bought a 35mm Summarit-M from Hoppy's dealer in Australia - in the
fond hope that Leica will see the light on pricing of digital bodies! The
introduction of the Summarit line is what is making me believe that they
will introduce a secondary cheaper line of digital M bodies - if the company
stays solvent, that is.

Cheers
Jayanand
