A more serious image later I'll scan myself personally and the plan would be to also have a drum scan made for certain images I plan to print 17x22. But you get your CD back and if the scans are not miserable its almost like you shot digital. No metadata. You gotta spend some time doing some cloning. But other than that it all ends up in the same hard disk. mark@rabinergroup.com Mark William Rabiner > From: Lottermoser George <imagist3@mac.com> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug@leica-users.org> > Date: Sat, 13 Dec 2008 15:20:12 -0600 > To: Leica Users Group <lug@leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] RD-1 now Backup > > For me the cost of most consideration = time > Scanning (for me) felt like forever. > > And I never did find a scanner > which gave me what was on the film. > > My first foray into digital > was drum scans > of my 4x5 or 120 transparencies > for use in my design work. > Kind of spoils you for digital image quality. > I went through 4 scanners > trying to approach the drum scans. > None ever did. > > Digital capture > does approach the quality of drum scans > and in a fraction of the time > of purchasing film > processing film > and scanning film. > > That said > I miss the darkroom. > I miss the negatives and transparencies. > But I don't have a choice. > > I admire Alan's ability > to shoot digital for work > and film for personal. > > Maybe in 2009 I'll be able to find a way > to do that. > > Fond regards, > George > > george@imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com/blog > http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist > > > > On Dec 13, 2008, at 2:51 PM, Nathan Wajsman wrote: > >> So to count the cost of the computer as part of the cost of >> photography is nonsense. > > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information
