PhotoShop is a professional product and priced accordingly.   CS4 is not
essential to the process; several really competent alternatives exist.
Also, unless you need the features, you don't need to  upgrade.  I still use
PhotoShop CS; like my M8, it did not stop being useful when the newer
iteration arrived.
