I think maybe that Jim's next yearbook might have a text section. We could
have the collected wisdom of Chairman Grant and prose by
Rabiner. That bit might be scratch and sniff.
Cheers

The way I look at it THE WAY in which things like camera gear which shoots
film and is perhaps decades old is sold nowadays has changed dramatically.
We no longer wait breathlessly till the next swap meet comes along to our
fairgrounds.
Or travel far and wide to find them. Perhaps join the circus.
We just get them on the world auction rip-off markets.
E-bay with our I-Mac and our I-Pod.

But also its a good reason to "join" the LHSA as you are just getting a
magazine subscription to THE VIEWFINDER you think but also it then turns out
other than joining a club you may or may not plan on having the slightest
thing to do with you are also getting THE CATALOG.
THE CATALOG has been supervised by LHSA member Ed Schwartzreich for years I
think a decade and has recently gone pdf via email. But can also come
quaintly to you in the form of real paper I think via slug mail. S-Mail.

But the idyllic idea of buying a piece of gear over the counter; looking at
it and fondling it and putting it on my camera before I buy it I'm willing
to pay a bit of a premium. I ask the person:
"Has it been a nice little lens?"

And have to pay a premium becuae that I believe is how its looked at now.
They had to pick up all their stuff and drag it over there and pry
themselves always from all the latest breaking auctions.

You want it cheap and play the game and wait and take your chances on the
world market? Then the swap meet thing is not for you. You'd have to get
dressed and take a shower and show up someplace and talk to real people
instead of packaging stuff off in your PJ's.

You want something definite with instant tactile gratification and less risk
taking and passing back and forth emails and slug mails and joining pay and
pack?
then pay for the ticket to get in and don't expect cut rate deals like
everything's a grab bag item.
Buy a hot dog and a coke and spill it all over someone's cut rate third
party uncoated UVa filters. That's what I do.

I never go to a swap meet by the way without getting some cheap stuff.
Bay III filters for my Rolleiflex or some weird stuff.
But if I'm going to get a lens I don't expect it cut rate.

Those days if they ever were are gone my friend I thought they'd never end..

for we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days
