My way in CS2 is :

1. Choose the Colour Sampler Tool.
2. Go to Image - Adjustments - Threshold
3. Choose the White Point and Black Point using the slider, mark them
(Shift Click) with the Colour Sampler Tool, and then cancel the
Threshold dialog
4. Go to Image - Adjustment - Curves
5. Keep the mouse left clicked and choose a point of neutral grey - a
reading of around 128 on the curves dialog, under Input, mark it with
the Colour Sampler Tool and then cancel the Curves dialog
6. Open a Curves Adjustment Layer, and set the black, white and grey points.
The colour should be pretty much corrected.
Cheers
Jayanand
