Thanks Hoppy and Henning

I had done every thing including reinstall to no avail but stumbled on 
the secret. Pulling the USB plug prior to the reinstall of Nikon 4.02 
did the trick. Damned if it doesn't say that in the instruction manual. :-)

I'm back in my new-age techno mode and have stopped looking for a V35.
