Subject: [Leica] Japanese paper reports Canon to take over Leica

Leica needed to cut a deal with a technology provider in AF and digital.
Getting bought out wasn't what I was hoping for. But since they had already
passed up so many opportunities or been rejected, the investors probably
felt they could either sell now or give away later. As for the L lenses. I
like them too and have a couple of them, but having been inside a few I can
tell you that they are only slightly beefed up implementations of the EOS AF
design style. They are not worth anywhere near what people pay for them!
Competition from Leica would have done a lot to bring L prices down through
old fashioned competition. But that's not going to happen. As for the RF
area, that should be interesting to watch. Perhaps they will allow Leica to
continue making curio Ms and charging 4K for them. But I certainly won't be
buying them!
