I have been a Mac user since I started editing 14 years ago.
At that time PC's were Holgas in graphical terms compared to the Hassies
that were the Macs. ( or Mamiyas, Rollei..don't want to start a discussion
on what is better in Medium format :-) )
Graphic softwares, including Photoshop, were not available for PC at the
time.

Then they started making softwares for PC's and, given they were more
cheaper than the Macs, Agencies started buying PC's ( it was the accountants
who made the decisions not the artists).
But, and this is a big but, PC's just started to die left and right, and the
more "expensive" Macs were still beating healthy.
To this day, a Quadra 950 bought in 1992 is still working fine, daily
beatings for video editing with graphics, slow as hell nonetheless, with
only one problem, the diskette driver died, replaced by a $50 internal...not
that we need disketes anymore ;-)...

Unfortunately, Mr. Jobs has learned from Mr. Gates and Mr. Dell... now you
buy a Mac, comes three months and you have a better, faster one that cost
just the same as you paid for your new-old mac...

One thing that always bothered me is that there is technology for better
graphics but webpages have always been compromissing for the 98% of users
who have lower displays....

But, that is the market I guess.

As you say... I prefer to spend my money on photo gear....:-)

peace

>(which would have a slower processor, much less RAM, slower graphic, slower
>frontside bus, less L2 cache, less extension slots, cheaper soundcard).
