Mark, this is a clear example of people talking about different
planes(levels) of the same subject. On the one hand, the LUG is a place
where opinions and images of all levels and complexity are encouraged. So,
at that level, images of the family are wonderful, full of meaning,
personally significant, and a fine place to practice our skills as
photographers.

However, at another level, we need to get out of the house and see the world
which includes other people, rocks, shadows, and even statues. We need to
take criticism to understand how others see the world which includes our
work, sometimes it hurts, most times it helps. This is where you were
suggesting moving on, others thought you were closing them out when you
thought you were providing helpful advice. Such is life.
