I mostly use it on the 280 F4 (sometimes with a 2x converter (but it does gets a little dark). That gives about a 22x (or 44x) magnification. The view through this combination is spectacular (having said that I haven't used a spotting scope so I have nothing to compare with). It isn't as good as binoculars etc as far as ease of use, but as far as making a long lens into an amazing telescope its brilliant. If you were to only use it on shorter lenses, my opinion is to get a separate pair of binoculars, since they would be much easier to use.
