The newer designs do that much less so (for example the new Summilux 35 ASPH). Spot on wide open in close is quite an achievement in the first place. You guys are better than I to make that work reliably with the (previous) Noctii and/or the Summilux 75! But the sharpest plane will shift somewhat as you stop down until increasing DoF masks the error. As Marty pointed out their calibration systems for the rangefinder and the sensor positioning within the body and the lenses (with interferometer measurement) all came about due to the much less tolerant nature of sensors over film. Nevertheless even if a lens and body are perfect on delivery it is possible for for them to loosen/wear in use. My 50 now has twice.
