Unless you get a specialist screen microprisms and split image centers are "pointed" at a f5.6 aperture. The digi slrs I have used do not have a good standard screen for manual focus, and there is a temptation to use the focus confirmation light, which is also, of course, not much use with a fast lens. At f2.8 the Leica 1.4 lenses (pre asph and asph) are still better than the Nikons I have, AIS from 1970s and latest AF. I always used to use a plain matt screen on my film SLRs.?I am not sure my eyes are good enough now!
