If you go further north and west of Austin say 120 miles you will see many
scenes like you show.  The trapezoid from roughly Corpus Christie to
Houston to Dallas-Fort Worth is humming and zipping right along.  I think
there might be 20 lanes of traffic on the I-10 corridor entering Houston
from the west: and it almost always backed up.
