[Leica] Could this be Bavaria?

The character of the town has changed a lot over the last 10-15 years.  Many 
of the shops have closed and been replaced with restaurants and wine shops. 
Large motels have cropped up around the town.  Only 120 miles from Seattle 
has made it quite the tourist place for short day trips or overnight 
getaways.  Loosing some of the charm is has worked on since the early 60's. 
It was a logging town from the late 1800's to the early 60's when it was 
dying.  A group of people sought help from the University of Washington and 
a plan was hatched to transform the town and modern Leavenworth was born and 
thrives.  I guess in that respect it is kind of Disneyesque.

Even though I miss all the shops and do not frequent any restaurants/wine 
shops other than the sausage at the Munich House, I enjoy coming and the 
scenery up the canyon can be amazing at the right times of year.  It use to 
be better, but there have been two large forest fires in the last 15 years 
or so that have denuded parts of the canyon.  Got too close to the town for 
comfort one year.  Some houses on the outskirts were hit, but the fire 
fighters were able to stop it short of town.

The last two for me. As for the town, it is a Disney version of Bavaria as 
it existed, say, 40 years ago. Today?s Munich is a modern city with bicycle 
paths, (horror) vegetarian restaurants, and a vibrant arts and music scene; 
but the sausages are still there, people still wear Lederhosen, and the 
standard beer size is 1 liter. I am going back there in the first week of 
December to indulge in all of that, including the Christmas market on 
Marienplatz.
