By far the most common bird of prey that you see in the East African grasslands is the Tawny Eagle. It is a very accommodating bird for photographers, inasmuch as it lets you get close. The first three are a sequence of a Tawny Eagle getting ready to fly off: Look: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20120107_0053.jpg.html Poop: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20120107_0056.jpg.html Fly: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20120107_0058.jpg.html Lastly, just a portrait: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140314_5768.jpg.html A very handsome eagle is the Long-crested Eagle, with a rakish tuft of feathers on the head: Calling: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140313_4482.jpg.html Take Off: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140315_6168.jpg.html Flight: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140315_6170.jpg.html Finally, the Bateleur, unmistakable with its short, stubby tail and white underwings, a master of low level flight: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140314_5394.jpg.html A last raptor, the wonderfully named Eastern Pale Chanting Goshawk: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140313_5003.jpg.html The next two photograph are of Bustards. one small, and one the biggest: White-bellied Bustard: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140310_2031.jpg.html A Male Kori Bustard in full display: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140315_5829.jpg.html Lastly, one of the commonest birds in East Africa, a Helmeted Guinea-fowl: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/EAfrica/2014/Ndutu_20140314_5305.jpg.html Please see LARGE Comments and criticism, as ever, welcome\ Cheers Jayanand
