From what I learned playing around with them, as far as image quality, other than the higher MP and corresponding image sharpness, the quality is about the same. Slight advantage to 800E. For me that did not overweigh the difference in size and weight as I will carry a camera for 8 or more hours hiking around national parks carrying an assortment of lenses and a tripod. If these are not your concerns, get the 800E. And since I was stepping to FF from the D7000, the layout of the buttons and controls was almost the same, so it has been a very easy learning curve.
