My grandpa died at 84 a few yrs ago, but he had Alzheimers and his life the last few yrs was not very good. I had a great-grandfather who lived to be 90, despite being extremely overweight, diabetic, and with heart problems. He consistently ignored his doctors' advice to stop eating the huge steaks and candy he loved to eat, and he drank and smoked. I remember him telling a doctor, "God damn it, if I can't eat what the hell I want, drink, and smoke, life isn't worth a shit anyway. I'd rather be dead!" He refused to exercise too, saying that if he wanted to work his ass off, he'd have not retired from coal mining! I think that health and long life are largely luck. Genetics play a huge role, and I'm not sure that killing yourself exercising or eating foods you don't like make much difference. I loved visiting my great-grandpa when I was a kid. He always had a gigantic bowl of candy on his kitchen table, and if my mom complained about me eating too much of it, he told her to shut up and quit bitching, then he'd give me another piece! -- Chris Crawford Fine Art Photography Fort Wayne, Indiana 260-437-8990 http://www.chriscrawfordphoto.com My portfolio http://blog.chriscrawfordphoto.com My latest work! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christopher-Crawford/48229272798 Become a fan on Facebook On 6/10/12 5:56 PM, "Herbert Kanner" <kanner at acm.org> wrote: >I turned ninety yesterday, 9 June.
