I'm not spending $5k on a camera with no warranty that has a propensity
for cracked sensors and other stuff. Others may feel free to do so, but
I don't wish too. I'll stick with film for now. Or get a Fuji X-Pro 1.
Or a 5DIII. Or maybe Leica will announce a camera that will make me
willing to plunk down their asking price.

All I really said in my original email was that IF a company could
figure out how to turn a profit on a $4k-ish full frame digital
rangefinder that accepted M mount lenses, I think they'd have a decent
market. Doesn't have to be Leica. I know plenty of people who prefer
shooting with Bessas or Ikons, or who prefer Voigtlander or ZM lenses to
the Leica ones. And seeing how sensors are developing, I think people
would prefer it if it WASN'T Leica.

At no point did I say I think I was going to get a Leica M for $2k. I
did say that it was a bit silly to think you could get one for that
price. Heck, you can't get a new full frame camera from any maker for
that price.

And maybe Leica's prices are mostly dictated by prestige. I don't know
and you don't either. That doesn't preclude another company out there
from seeing a niche for themselves where they can position a competitive
product. There are several examples that one can point to RIGHT NOW in
the M mount market, so people are aware of this. Time will tell if
technology will get to the point where a full frame RF is viable.
