[Leica] Digital vs. film cost

I the old days what I'd hear as a professional was "film is cheap" and you'd
buy a brick and shoot it. Relay that to the client in a manner so they'd
believe it too. In reality it was of course not cheap but it was cheaper
than a reshoot.
The difference between a shot from a pro and a shot you'd do yourself is a a
pro would shoot a brick (360 exposures if it was not Kodak) and you'd click
a few frames. Look at it. It looked like garbage so you'd say "I'd better
hire a pro!"
Perhaps if the client would go out themselves and buy a brick with the
cellophane and shoot 360 frames they'd get a shot they'd like as much as
well. But then there's the other thing. Are you going to take the time to do
it? And a pro will. Becuae you're paying them for it. Plus by the roll.
And a pro will take the time to go through their take and find the shot in
there which really stands out as the best shot. And that is concentrated
work; the kind a causal shooter is not experienced with.

Now its the digital days and a client can get their own camera and click 360
shots and it cost them 12 cents worth of hard disk space and do they do
that? Maybe sometimes but the other half the time they'd hire a photographer
to do it. When it needs to be done right . Which means somebody's got to
take the time to do it. Someone who cares to do it right.
