It was a stupid strategy with the M9.  Why would anyone rich enough to
afford a $7K body buy the cheapest ( and therefore least good) lens?

Ridiculous.

Because Leica Camera's customers have bought more than twice as many
Summiluxes as Summarits when given the choice.
