I agree Frank that the amazing low price of the Pentax 6x7  helped made them
ubiquitous. You in effect paid less for more real estate. And the glass was
nothing to be embarrassed about.
A photographer visiting here from Japan told me (in a Denny's) way back that
every 35mm photographer he knew in Japan had one at the bottom of his camera
bag just for those medium format emergencies.  A slight exaggeration I'm
sure.
Finally one come out with a version with mirror lockup because without that
for serious non flash work they were worthless.
