Yes, I have always accepted that ISO 1250 is the highest achievable and 
lived with it, as Tina suggested, this is partly made up for by the 
availability of fast lenses. But this problem with lines across the image 
did not occur while the camera was under warranty (the first 2 years, that 
is)--it has only started now in January, a month after the warranty ended :-(
