Fortunately some 90% of the rabbits have been removed by Calicivirus, The
Parks service are working hard at removing thousands of foxes so that the
wallabies may return.

Possums are protected in Australia (as basically are all native animals) but
the same species introduced into New Zealand is regarded as vermin (as are
deer, camels,brumbies, feral pigs, rabbits, cats here of course).
